Texas relaxed legal restrictions on carrying firearms and storing ammunition in public places. The change in state laws came one day after 8 people were killed in shootings near the Texas cities of Odessa and Midland. Several major US retailers have issued statements asking customers not to openly carry weapons into their stores. The US Treasury imposed new sanctions targeting Iranian-owned tankers and entities allegedly controlled by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force. Engaging in business with a blacklisted entity could result in being added to the US sanctions list. On the same day, the State Department announced a $15 million reward for information that could help disrupt the Revolutionary Guards’ financial mechanisms. This has raised concerns that Trump may have violated the Constitution’s emoluments clause, which is designed to prevent elected officials from profiting from their office. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D) announced her support for impeachment proceedings against President Trump. The move followed media reporting in mid-September that a government official had filed a whistleblower complaint against Trump. The complaint alleged that he attempted to pressure the president of Ukraine into investigating the business activities of potential presidential rival Joe Biden and his son during a phone call in July.
