On October 23, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation and the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation cordially invites you to a panel discussion with a group of American nuclear energy and regulatory experts for a discussion on“Post-TMI, Post-Fukushima What’s Next for Nuclear Energy Governance in Japan and the U.S.”.

Japan and the United States have shared a long history of collaboration in nuclear energy research, development, and implementation. Having experienced their severe nuclear accidents at TMI and Fukushima Daiichi, both countries have also worked together closely as they adjust their regulatory practices to reflect lessons learned. Nuclear regulatory decisions are in essence a matter of domestic policy. However, at a time when many countries in the world are considering developing nuclear energy, regulatory developments in Japan and the U.S. have a ripple effect, setting examples and influencing nuclear energy practices around the world.

At the panel, we will also have special Japanese experts as commentators and will have open discussion, comparing two countries experiences and observations, and considering implications and cooperation for future nuclear energy, safety regulation and governance in Japan and the U.S.
Ustream Viewing will be made available by IWJ (Independent Web Journal).
