Event Report: From Palu to the Pacific - Advancing Disability-Inclusive Approaches from PacRim 2026
In May 2026, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation participated in the 41st Pacific Rim International Conference on Disability, held at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. The conference convened researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and civil society actors from across the United States, the Pacific, and Asia to examine approaches to resilience, inclusion, and community-based development. The conference provided an important platform to situate SPF’s work in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia within a broader international dialogue on disability-inclusive development and social cohesion.

Announcement: Workshop on Satellite VDES
"Satellite VDES," which integrates VDES with satellite communications, has attracted growing attention, raising expectations for broader coverage and enhanced capabilities. At the same time, a number of issues remain to be addressed before practical deployment can be realized, including concrete use cases, operational rules, and frameworks for international coordination. In view of these circumstances, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, in cooperation with IALA and the Japan Coast Guard, will host the "Workshop on Satellite VDES."

【Report】Co-hosting of the 22nd Pan American Nikkei Convention (COPANI) and the Dispatch of Ms. Akie Abe to São Paulo, Brazil
The Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) promotes mutual understanding through exchanges among opinion leaders, including politicians, with the aim of strengthening ties between Japan and the Nikkei communities in South America. In this context, the 22nd Pan American Nikkei Convention (COPANI: Convención Panamericana Nikkei) was held in São Paulo, Brazil, hosted by Brazilian Society of Japanese Culture and Social Assistance (Bunkyo) and the Pan-American Nikkei Association, and co-hosted by SPF and other organizations. As part of SPF’s initiatives, Ms. Akie Abe, Chairperson of Foundation for Social Contribution, was dispatched to São Paulo, Brazil. She attended COPANI, which brought together Nikkei participants from 15 countries across North and South America, including Japan, and delivered a speech addressed to the Nikkei community.
