On May 27, Akiko Horiba, Director of the Center for Mediation Support at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, spoke at the East Asia Gender Equality Forum in Taipei, Taiwan, organized by the Foundation for Women’s Rights Promotion and Development. She introduced the establishment of the Center and delivered a keynote address on the importance of Women, Peace and Security (WPS) in East Asia.

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Defence of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on June 11, 2026, in Colombo, concerning SPF’s project for “Security Dialogues and Defense Exchanges between Japan and Asian Countries.”

The 1st Island Nations GLOBAL SYNERGY Mtg 6 - Building Resilience: Insights from Hurricane Melissa
From March 12–13, 2026, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation hosted the inaugural Island Nations Global Synergy Meeting in Tokyo, Japan. The event was organized in collaboration with the Government of Palau, EPCO and Sov Lanatir, both NGOs based in Mauritius, as well as the OECS, a regional organization headquartered in Saint Lucia. This video records a session held at the end of the final day on March 13, co-hosted with the Embassy of Jamaica in Japan.
