SPF welcomed Delegations from the Indonesian National Resilience Institute (LEMHANAS RI)

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) had the pleasure of hosting H.E. Dr. Ace Hasan Syadzily, Governor of the National Resilience Institute of the Republic of Indonesia (LEMHANNAS), and his delegation for a roundtable discussion in Tokyo on 8 June 2026. The session brought together senior perspectives from both Japan and Indonesia to exchange views on Japan’s political landscape and the evolving security environment in Asia, with a particular focus on regional stability and the role of Southeast Asia.

The discussion, led by Executive Director Nobukatsu Kanehara, explored how domestic political dynamics in Japan shape foreign and security policy, as well as Indonesia’s perspectives and priorities in navigating an increasingly complex regional context. The exchange was open and candid, enabling participants to reflect on shared challenges and opportunities for maintaining stability and cooperation in Asia.

In closing, SPF also introduced several ongoing initiatives related to Indonesia and ASEAN. The Strategic Dialogue and Human Resource Development Program presented the Asia Statespersons’ Forum (ASF), an annual platform for strategic dialogue among political leaders.
In addition, the Japan-U.S. and Security Studies Unit introduced the Indonesia–Japan Security Dialogue & Defense Exchange, while the Peacebuilding Program shared insights from community-based peacebuilding efforts in post-conflict areas. These SPF initiatives aim to contribute to informed dialogue and practical understanding of regional dynamics, reflecting the importance of linking policy discussions with on-the-ground experience.

The Strategic Dialogue and Exchange Program, Sasakawa Peace Foundation(SPF), has invited Nikkei Brazilian politicians, including members of the Federal Chamber of Deputies and São Paulo City Council, for a one week exchange program in Japan. As part of this program, a public seminar was held on Friday, January 30, 2026. The seminar highlighted the significant contributions that Nikkei communities have made to the development of both Brazilian and Japanese societies. It also served as a valuable opportunity to further deepen the importance of mutual exchange between Japan and Brazil.

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF), as a private organization, has been promoting “Track 1.5 diplomacy,” which fosters international exchange among policymakers. Since FY 2025, SPF has been advancing initiatives to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen collaboration between Nikkei communities in South America and Japan through exchange programs involving politicians and other key figures.
