Secretary of State Marco Rubio of the United States (U.S.) visited India for the first time from May 23 to May 27, 2026. India-U.S. relations had been steadily deteriorating after India resolutely refused to endorse U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that he had brokered a ceasefire in the four-day skirmishes between India and Pakistan that had occurred exactly one year previously.
