Event Report: National Seminar – From Vulnerability to Resilience: Assessing Security Risks and the Role of Livelihoods in Rohingya Camps
A national seminar organized by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation in collaboration with Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) presented the research findings emphasizing that structural vulnerabilities and psychosocial stress significantly influence perceptions of security among Rohingya refugees living in camps in Bangladesh.

SPF Hosted a High-level International Peace Mediation Exchange in Tokyo
From May 11 to 13, 2026, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation’s Center for Mediation Support hosted a high-level international exchange in Tokyo, bringing together leading practitioners and policymakers from Oman, Switzerland, Türkiye, and prominent non-governmental organizations. The program was organized to strengthen cooperation in peace mediation and to foster dialogue between global experts and stakeholders in Japan at a time of increasing conflict worldwide.

Overseas Research Visits Conducted in Estonia, Finland, and the Republic of Korea (Enhancing the Foundation for Human Resource Base of Defense Capabilities)
The General Affairs and Networking Program of Japan-U.S. and Security Studies Unit of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation conducted overseas research in Estonia and Finland from December 6 to 13, 2025, and in the Republic of Korea from January 31 to February 6, 2026, under the Study Group “Security Strategy Studies (Strengthening the Human Resource Base)”, chaired by Mr. Tetsuro Kuroe, former Administrative Vice-Minister of Defense. This study group is one of the study groups established within "Security Strategy Studies Project" (FY2024-2025).

SPF Holds an Exchange of Views on Maritime Affairs with Director General Kristi Land
On Thursday, May 14, 2026, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation welcomed Director General Kristi Land of the Legal Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia, along with other senior officials, and held an exchange of views in the field of the law of the sea. The meeting was attended by Senior Fellow Atsuko Kanehara and other experts, who shared perspectives on maritime affairs from an international standpoint.

Exchange of Views with the Taiwan Think Tank Prospect Foundation
On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the Strategy and Deterrence Program, Japan-U.S. and Security Studies Unit, welcomed representatives from the Taiwan think tank Prospect Foundation. Together with researchers from the foundation, they held discussions on the security environment and regional developments in the Indo-Pacific region.

Event Report: Japanese Parliamentarians Discuss Youth Mental Health as a Shared Challenge in Japan and the United States
On March 11, 2026, a study session for members of the National Diet was held on the theme of youth mental health. Cross-party members of the Diet and experts from the U.S. participated in the session. They shared insights on topics such as the impact of the digital environment on young people and deepened their awareness of the challenges in preparation for future legislative dialogue between the two countries.

Climate Loss Index (CLiX)
Across the world, climate impacts are reshaping lives in ways that numbers alone cannot capture. Loss unfolds through broken relationships, disrupted ways of life, and shifting meanings of identity and belonging. Yet, much of this remains unseen, uncounted, and unheard. To truly understand climate loss, we must move beyond measuring what is visible and begin to engage with how loss is experienced, connected, and made meaningful. The Climate Loss Index (CLiX) is a process-based methodology designed to capture climate loss in its full complexity.
