Lecture Information
On February 25, 2014, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation hosted H.E. Ambassador Constance A. Morella, Former U.S. Ambassador to the OECD, to discuss the role of women. Under the Abe administration, not only "Abenomics" but also "Womenomics" draw increasing attention from the world. Against this backdrop, Ambassador Morella, who took a lead in developing women's social advancement in the U.S. Congress by raising issues such as women's role and a form of family, made a speech about the female leadership in government and society. She talked her personal and political journey as Ambassador, Congresswoman, and Mother, through which she overcome many milestones and high hurdles.

In 2003, Ambassador Morella became the first United States Ambassador to the OECD ever to have served in the U.S. Congress. Before the tenure, she chaired the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues, advancing effort to promote access to micro-enterprise capital among women in developing countries. Currently, she serves as a president of the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress (FMC).

With Ambassador Morella, the lecture provided an implication to women's social engagement as well as gender equality in Japan.
