OPRI Convenes Dialogue on Advancing Ocean System Change
On March 12, the Ocean Policy Research Institute (OPRI) of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation hosted a discussion to exchange views on advancing system change in the ocean sector. The meeting brought together stakeholders engaged in ocean innovation, impact investment, and ecosystem development.

The Northeast Indian Ocean Regional Dialogue convened high-level delegates and experts to advance dialogue and cooperation on sustainable blue economy development, regional connectivity, and community resilience in Small Island Developing States (SIDS). This gathering is part of the Global Synergy Project and represents the third in a series of strategic dialogues following similar events in the Caribbean and Pacific.
Blue carbon collaboration at COP30: Technical outcomes and pathways
On 11 November 2025, the Ocean Pavilion at COP30 in Belém hosted the session “Blue Carbon Collaboration: Sharing Japan’s Coastal Solutions with Asia and Beyond (Including Marine CDR Pathways)”, organised by the Ocean Policy Research Institute of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (OPRI-SPF).

Dr. Kotaro Tanaka, Research Fellow of OPRI, received the ECOP Best Oral Presentation from Human Dimensions Committee Award for his research "Social network analysis of partnership structure under the UN Ocean Decade Actions" at the PICES-2025 Annual meeting held at Yokohama.

The United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC), COP30, will be held in Belém, Brazil from November 10 - 21 2025.
