IINA: Biodefense in the Age of “Omni-Use”: Rethinking National Preparedness

In my previous article, I introduced the concept of the ‘Era of Omni-Use’, arguing that advances in the life sciences are no longer confined to laboratories or the healthcare sector but are reshaping virtually every aspect of society—from agriculture and environmental protection to industry and national security. Building on that argument, this article examines the institutional foundations required for states to navigate the Era of Omni-Use. It begins with one of the most fundamental elements of that foundation: biodefense.

IINA: Sudan in Turmoil: A Proxy War of the Middle East and the Risk of State Collapse

Three years have passed since the military clash erupted in Sudan in April 2023 between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary “Rapid Support Force (RSF)”, yet there is still no sign of a resolution to the conflict. Since April 2023, at the height of the crisis, approximately 14 million people have been displaced from their homes; more than 20 million—equivalent to half the population—have been exposed to severe food shortages and are at risk of starvation, sexual violence against women has been rampant, and there are reports that genocide may have occurred.
