Senior Fellow Atsuko Kanehara and other researchers attend the "Taiwan International Ocean Forum"
On July 2 and July 3, Atsuko Kanehara, Senior Fellow; Katsuya Yamamoto, Rear Admiral (ret.) of JMSDF and Director of the Strategic and Deterrence Program; Michael C. Huang, Senior Research Fellow at the Ocean Policy Research Institute; Tomohisa Hayawaka, Research Fellow of the Strategy and Deterrence Program, participated in “Taiwan International Ocean Forum 2025, TOIF2025” in Taipei City, hosted by the Ocean Affairs Council.

Japan–Taiwan Dialogue 2025 Held with Taiwan Think Tank “Prospect Foundation”
On June 24, the annual Japan–Taiwan Dialogue 2025 was held in partnership with the Prospect Foundation in Taiwan. As part of a dialogue series that has taken place annually since the 2010s, this year’s event was hosted by SPF and convened in Tokyo.

Held Discussions with students of National Chengchi university program in Japan studies
On June 16, the Strategy and Deterrence Group hosted a visit from Professor LI Shui-Hui, Associate Professor Tadahiro Ishihara, Assistant Professor Yang Wen-Ting, and master's students from the Japanese Studies Program at the Institute of East Asian Studies, National Chengchi University . The visit began with a briefing by RADM Yamamoto, Director Strategy and Deterrence, who introduced the foundation's activities and related issues. This was followed by an exchange of views on Japan-Taiwan relations and security issues.

Report: The Current Status of Emergency Legislation in Japan and Its Challenges~From Nankai Trough Earthquake to the Taiwan Contingency

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and the subway sarin gas attack in Tokyo, the Emergency Legislation Study Group. established by SPF, has compiled this report based on past discussions and research. The report offers recommendations to the Japanese government aimed at strengthening emergency response measures and fostering broader public interest in this critical issue.
