SPF-APSA Congressional Fellowship Program
Since 2022, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) has offered the SPF-APSA Congressional Fellowship Program to nurture professionals with strong expertise in U.S. politics and U.S.-Japan relations.
On Wednesday, July 2 and Thursday, July 3, Atsuko Kanehara, Senior Fellow; Katsuya Yamamoto, Rear Admiral (ret.) of JMSDF and Director of the Strategic and Deterrence Program; Michael C. Huang, Senior Research Fellow at the Ocean Policy Research Institute; Tomohisa Hayawaka, Research Fellow of the Strategy and Deterrence Program, participated in “Taiwan International Ocean Forum 2025, TOIF2025” in Taipei City, hosted by the Ocean Affairs Council.
At the TOIF2025, experts and researchers from the public, private, academic, and research sectors across 15 countries gathered to discuss issues related to maritime security and the sustainable development of the blue economy.
Senior Fellow Kanehara served as a panelist in the session titled “Challenges to Indo-Pacific Maritime Security,” RADM Yamamoto in “Clearing the Clouds, Working Together for a Harmonious Future,” and Dr. Huang in “Blue Economy Development: Sustainable Momentum in the Marine Industry.” In addition, Mr. Dee Wu, PhD Candidate, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), who contributes to research assistance with the Strategic and Deterrence Program, also took the stage in “The Younger Generation: The Key to a Harmonious and Sustainable Future.” The event brought significant attention to the activities of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.
