On July 9, 2026, Center for Mediation Support(CMS) of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation held a public symposium titled “Libya’s Economic and Energy Frontiers in Reconstruction and Growth,
and Its Expectations for Japan,” welcoming ministers and high-level practitioners visiting Japan from Libya. (Co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.)
At the symposium, speakers delivered presentations on Libya’s economic and energy situation, Japan–Libya relations, and case studies of Japanese companies operating in Libya. The question-and-answer session featured lively discussion with participants from the audience, and the networking session and meetings that followed provided a valuable opportunity to deepen exchanges between Japan and Libya.
On July 10, the visiting delegation paid a courtesy call on SPF President Atsushi Sunami and expressed strong expectations for Japan’s contribution to Libya’s political stability and to the development of its economic and energy sectors. In response, President Sunami emphasized that Libya is one of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation’s areas of focus and expressed his intention to work with diverse actors, with JCM playing a central role.
Through this program, participants gained a deeper understanding of developments in Libya’s economic and energy sectors, and the visit provided a valuable opportunity to foster continued exchange and dialogue between Japan and Libya. Center for Mediation Support of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation will continue to create opportunities that connect diverse stakeholders in support of the further development of relations between the two countries.
The July 9 public symposium was positioned as the “Second Japan–Libya Economic Forum.”
