1. NEWS: Setting the stage for greater gender parity in politics: SPF and the Academy for Gender Parity team up to train aspiring women politicians
SPF’s Asia Peace Initiatives Department in collaboration with the Academy for Gender Parity arranged a series of events focusing on the future of women's political participation across Asia, including a seminar featuring remarks by Malaysian Minister of Housing and Local Government Zuraida Kamaruddin and a training workshop for aspiring women politicians in Japan.
2. NEWS: Accord Spotlight publication "Pathways to Peace Talks: Supporting Early Dialogue" incorporates SPF peacebuilding experience in southern Thailand
The latest issue of Accord Spotlight, an internationally acclaimed journal series focusing on peace processes around the world, incorporated SPF's years of experience with peacebuilding in southern Thailand in their latest issue.
3. NEWS: OPRI Side Events at the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7) in Yokohama
From August 27-28, 2019, the Ocean Policy Research Institute (OPRI) organized two side events and a closed roundtable discussion to address blue economy and blue carbon on the sidelines of the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7) in Yokohama. These side events highlighted the foundation’s research while also focusing international attention on the potential for governments, the private sector, and other stakeholders in Japan and countries in Africa to work together to promote the sustainable use of marine resources while also unlocking the potential of the world’s oceans.

4. PUBLICATION: The latest from the Asia Strategy Initiative: An Alliance Strategy for the East China Sea and U.S.-Japan Cooperation on Indo-Pacific Regional Architecture
To establish a foundation for future efforts to enhance the U.S.-Japan alliance, the Asia Strategy Initiative brings together leading experts from both countries to stimulate debate about how to move the alliance forward through the development and dissemination of novel policy proposals. 5. REGISTER NOW: Is the Japan-U.S. Alliance Unfair? Comparisons between U.S. Alliances in Europe and Asia (Thursday, October 24, 2019)

Against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump’s “America First” policy, SPF in collaboration with the Casimir Pulaski Foundation of Poland has conducted a series of comparative analyses to compile balance sheets outlining the strengths and weaknesses of U.S. allies in Asia and Europe. This event will welcome the authors of this research for discussions comparing Japan's relative strengths and weaknesses with other U.S. allies, with the ultimate goal of uncovering strategies for maintaining the Japan-U.S. alliance moving forward.
