Dr. Haleh Esfandiari, who has lived in the United States for over 30 years, has served an important role in shaping public opinion in the United States and Iran. In late December 2006 during her visit to her home country Iran, she was accused of engaging in anti-government activities and was detained by the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and National Security for 105 days.
