For a sustainable ocean – Forging social collaboration and international partnership from Nice and beyond

OrganizerOcean Policy Research Institute of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (OPRI-SPF)
Co-hostNikkei Inc. Nikkei Business Publications, Inc.

The 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), to be held in Nice, France, June 9-13, 2025, will bring together heads of state and ministers from around the world and executives from research institutions, NGOs, industry, and international organizations to discuss the realization of a sustainable ocean and strengthening international cooperation for this purpose, and to discuss how to achieve this goal. The aim is to adopt an outcome document that will define future activities. The Sasakawa Peace Foundation has been discussing progress, issues, and the direction of international collaboration for the promotion of a sustainable blue economy, which aims to realize sustainable development through ocean conservation and sustainable use of ocean resources, with relevant government officials and related organizations in Japan and abroad. The NIKKEI Blue Ocean Forum, spearheaded by Nikkei Inc., facilitates discussion among government officials, private companies, researchers, and others from Japan and abroad. The Forum's Expert Committee, co-chaired by Dr. Atsushi Sunami, President of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, has developed recommendations for strategies to promote ocean conservation and the blue economy. In this side event, we will share our strategic recommendations with the leaders of UNOC3 and other governments and relevant organizations, and discuss them with a view to strengthening international cooperation for their effective implementation, building upon the outcome of our research and policy dialogues.

We look forward to your participation.
