Freedom of the sea is a fundamental principle that underpins the international order. Recently however, growing instability surrounding the maritime order has heightened the need for clearer strategic direction. This project provides a platform for independent, long-term discussion of national strategy and offers intellectual support on issues that are often difficult for governments to address directly. By examining peacetime maritime governance and security from multiple perspectives, the project seeks to explore the maritime strategy Japan should pursue in the years ahead, while also promoting public understanding and strengthening the foundations for informed policy debate.
