SPF-APSA Congressional Fellowship Program
Since 2022, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) has offered the SPF-APSA Congressional Fellowship Program to nurture professionals with strong expertise in U.S. politics and U.S.-Japan relations.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Sunami welcomed Ambassador Skoog and highlighted the foundation’s signing last year of a memorandum of cooperation with the Government of Greenland, aimed at strengthening collaboration for peace and sustainable development in the Arctic region. He also emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between Japan and Europe.
The meeting was joined by SPF experts on foreign and security policy. Moderated by Ippeita Nishida, senior fellow of the Strategy and Deterrence Program, participants exchanged views on shared security concerns in Europe and the Indo-Pacific, the direction of Japan’s foreign policy under the second Takaichi administration, and areas in which Japan and Europe should further strengthen their cooperation.
