SPF-APSA Congressional Fellowship Program
Since 2022, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) has offered the SPF-APSA Congressional Fellowship Program to nurture professionals with strong expertise in U.S. politics and U.S.-Japan relations.
JFC, DSET, IORG and SPF speakers
On Friday, July 11, the Strategy and Deterrence Program of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF), in collaboration with Taiwan's Research Institute for Democracy, Society, and Emerging Technology (DSET) and the Safer Internet Association / Japan Fact-Check Center (SIA/JFC), co-hosted a symposium on countering disinformation in democratic societies.
The event featured experts from Taiwan and Japan, who discussed evolving challenges and emerging strategies in the fight against foreign information manipulation.
Speakers shared concrete examples of public-private collaboration, community engagement, and the use of digital literacy and fact-checking tools.
In particular, speakers from DSET and IORG discussed the situation in Taiwan, and speakers from SPF highlighted current developments in Japan and our foundation's effort in tracking disinformation in the Indo-Pacific through the Disinformation Portal.
The symposium also highlighted the growing role of AI in both spreading and countering disinformation, and examined prospects for cross-border cooperation.
The symposium served as a valuable step toward reaffirming the importance of safeguarding democracies from disinformation and fostering cooperative initiatives, both in Japan and abroad.
