Financing the Blue Economy in Asia

July 10, 2023

In the last half a decade after the pioneering sovereign blue bond was issued in 2018, blue bonds and loans have emerged as important sustainable debt financing instruments for projects, assets and companies that support a healthy ocean and sustainable blue economy especially in Asia.

This research was conducted by Tameo Impact Fund Solutions, a Swiss impact investing specialist, to understand the current state of the market for blue finance instruments used in Asia with a specific focus on blue bonds and blue loans. In this study, the nexus between blue finance and gender was also explored in order to assess the challenges and opportunities to scale up such gender plus blue finance strategies further.

We hope that this research can form the basis of best practices and lessons learned for the industry.
