The Japan-U.S. Program and Security Studies Program of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) are pleased to host a fireside chat on March 14th (Thursday) in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, featuring Mr. John Podesta, Senior Advisor to the President of the United States for International Climate Policy.
Mr. Podesta has long been at the forefront of climate change and environmental policies. Prior to joining the Biden Administration, Mr. Podesta founded the Center for American Progress think tank and served in leadership roles in both the Clinton and Obama administrations.
Amidst global conflicts and the transformative impact of technological innovations on the international landscape, the intertwined issues of climate change and energy security require comprehensive attention. In the field of climate change, Japan is actively pursuing decarbonization initiatives under the GX Promotion Law, while the United States is advancing its clean energy transition through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). This highlights the critical importance of cooperation between Japan and the U.S., including promoting clean energy technologies and robust supply chains for these.
In this event, alongside Mr. Podesta, we are honored to welcome Mr. Shinjiro Koizumi, Member of the House of Representatives (joining mid-event), and Mr. Yojiro Hatakeyama, Director General, Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, for a dialogue aimed at exploring various possibilities for cooperation. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Atsushi Sunami, President of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation. We very much look forward to your participation.
Note: There has been a change to one of the participating panelists. We appreciate your kind understanding.
