Ugnayan sa Aichi: Open Forum with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO)

Co-hosts: Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF), Nagoya International Center(NIC)

One of the priority areas of the Asia and Middle East Program of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) is the development of a more inclusive society in Asia. SPF believes that migrants’ communities play a major role in addressing the various issues faced by foreigners living in Japan, such as healthcare and children’s education, and we continue to carry out activities to strengthen mutual aid and cooperation with and within the foreign community.

As part of our work, the special handbook “Bridging The Gap: A Young People’s Guide to Living in Japan" was published in 2021 in partnership with KAKEHASHI (https://kakehashi-ph.jp/), a Filipino-Japanese community association that supports Filipinos in Japan. KAKEHASHI continues to work with Filipino communities all over Japan to uplift the lives of migrants from the Philippines.

The handbook recently won the “Print Journalism Award – Best Book (Non-Fiction/Guide)” from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) 2021 Migration Advocacy and Media (MAM) Awards. This year, KAKEHASHI and CFO launched a video series based on the handbook.

This time, in collaboration with the Nagoya International Center, we will hold a forum to share the current situation of foreign residents in the Tōkai region, especially Filipinos, and the activities that Filipino groups are doing to help their own community and others. The purpose of this forum is to further promote multicultural harmony in Japan by learning about the current situation of migrants from the Philippines.

We look forward to your participation.

*Please kindly note that this is an in-person event taking place in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. The event will not be streamed online.
