Unraveling Layers of Masculinity

New Roles of Men to Promote Women's Empowerment

Co-hosted by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development

"Be the breadwinner," "Men don't cry," "Man-up," "Assert dominance." Traditional social norms like these have been (and still are) used to measure masculinity where norms come in different layers –some promote whereas others hinder gender equality. The Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), on this occasion, will convene key players around the world with the aim to illuminate and advocate new roles of men to unravel the restrictive norms of masculinity.
