SPF Public Webinar

The state, Islam and religious minorities in Turkey

Organized by The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Asia and Middle East Program

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) cordially invites you to a public webinar entitled “The state, Islam and religious minorities in Turkey” by Dr. Ceren Lord, British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellow, the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Oxford.

Dr. Ceren Lord is a researcher specializing in religious politics and Islamism in the Middle East, with a specific focus on religious politics and nationalism in Turkey. In this webinar, she will talk about Islamist politics and religious minorities in Turkey, with a particular focus on the Alevis, Turkey's second largest faith community, estimated to comprise up to a quarter of the population.

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation sponsors a fellowship program which aims at nurturing human resources at the postdoctoral level in the field of Middle East Studies, in collaboration with the University of Oxford. As a fellow of this program between 2016-2018, Dr. Ceren Lord, while based at the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies (currently known as the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies), the University of Oxford, conducted research on the dynamics and consequences of sectarianism in the Middle East following the 2011 conflicts by focusing on the case of the Alevis of Turkey.

This webinar is a prime opportunity to hear the further developments of her research.
