Webinar Series on "Labour, Poverty and Social Activism under Covid-19" (Total 2 seminars)
2nd Webinar "Indonesia’s Social Activism and Implications to Japan"
Organized by Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF)
There have been drastic changes in people’s life and employment since the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic has occurred. A survey conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan has revealed that the number of people who have been fired or laid off due to the expansion of Covid-19 has exceeded 80,000. The ratio of layoff and dismissal is particularly high in part-timers, non-regular employees, and the younger generation, and this tragic reality has been gathering much attention from the media and the public.
Relating to this situation, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation has been hosting a series of online seminars on the theme of “Labour, Poverty and Social Activism under Covid-19.” The first round gave an overview on challenges that Japan faces in employment and social welfare, and discussed foresight for social movements together with the frontrunners of social work especially in the areas of urban poverty and labour issues. The second round will discuss implications from Indonesia, where democratization has been realized by the power of people. Considering the issues surrounding the Omnibus Law and its impacts on employment, there will be discussions on the long-term design of social movements through inter-generational collaboration.
We look forward to your participation.
