SPF Peacebuilding Program conducts and supports a collaborative research project, as one of our activities for the advancement of WPS (Women, Peace and Security) Agenda, with our interest and concern over difficulties to engage men for WPS work, and our approach that context - specific understanding of each conflict affected area is key in supporting systemic transformation on the ground.
We work with our partner institutions in the US (Georgetown Institute for WPS), UK(Conciliation Resources), Southeast Asia (Integral Knowledge Asia, International Center for Aceh and Indian Ocean Studies, Pattimura University, Mindanao State University General Santos)and collected responses of 6,000 men and women in three conflict-affected contexts in Southeast Asia, Aceh and Maluku in Indonesia and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao in the Philippines, on issues including gender equality, gender norms, experience of violence, mental health status, or perceptions on peacebuilding, and our partner institutions are currently analyzing the data set with the findings from qualitative research, and compiling into a number of papers.
Based on the finding from this collaborative research, GIWPS, as one of our partners, is publishing their paper “Beyond engaging men; Masculinities, (Non)Violence, and Peacebuilding”.
