First comprehensive study on assessing awareness about heavy metal contamination in Chattogram, Bangladesh
2024.08.09
Our project, "Evaluating Awareness and Impacts of Heavy Metal Contamination in Chattogram, Bangladesh," represents the first comprehensive study of its kind in the region. Conducted from January to March 2024, we surveyed 400 local residents and interviewed 40 experts from government, NGOs, INGOs, and academia.
Key findings revealed significant public knowledge gaps, with over 50% of residents unaware of heavy metal contamination despite acknowledging general pollution issues. Experts identified severe contamination from industrial and ship-breaking activities.
This study highlights the urgent need for public education, stricter regulations, and improved collaboration among stakeholders. By addressing these issues, we aim to reduce health and environmental risks in Chattogram.
Join us in our mission to safeguard Chattogram's community and environment.
