Development of Technologies for Water Environment Conservation and Water Resource Utilization
YAMAGUCHI Takashi (Special Assistant to the President (in charge of industry-academia-regional collaboration), Senior Fellow, Nagaoka University of Technology / Recipient of the 16th National Maritime Award)
In order to use water sustainably, environmental conservation and water resource restoration efforts are necessary to properly purify water and return it to nature after use. Furthermore, in order for this initiative to be implemented in society, it will also be necessary to create products and services that include keywords for the next generation, such as carbon neutral. This paper describes the positioning of water resource restoration efforts in society, examples of research and development of such technologies, and human resource development through these efforts.

The Role of Fish-specific Antibodies
TAKIZAWA Fumio (Associate Professor, Department of Advanced Aquaculture Science, Faculty of Marine Bioresources, Fukui Prefectural University)
Antibodies are proteins that bind to pathogens, such as bacteria and viruses, to eliminate them from our bodies or prevent their entry. The types of antibodies vary from animal to animal. In fish, IgM antibodies, which are present in all vertebrates, are primarily important for immune responses within the body, whereas IgT antibodies, which are unique to fish, are known to be involved in mucosal immune responses on the surface of the body. Similar to the prevention of infectious diseases in humans, preventive measures using aquaculture vaccines are also taken in the aquaculture industry. In the future, it is hoped that effective vaccines and evaluation methods will be developed by taking advantage of the characteristics of fish antibodies. Here we introduce the characteristics of fish antibodies and their application to vaccines for aquaculture.

A Long Look at the Okinoshima Island, Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture Regional Recycling Symbiosis Zone ~Eelgrass bed and forest restoration activities and their expansion~
TAKEUCHI Shouichi (Chairman of the Board of Directors, NPO Tateyama Seaside Appraisal Group)
The NPO Tateyama Seaside Appraisers Group was established in 2004 with the aim of realizing ecotourism mainly on Okinoshima Island in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture. Since 2016, when environmental changes along the seashore (decrease of eelgrass and decline of forests) became visible, the group has been working on eelgrass and forest restoration. While the initiative cannot be said to have been a success, it has now become a catalyst for the expansion of a variety of activities.
