Crimea and Russia's Shift to the East-A Great Power's Change in Course-

Recently, Russia has been in the process of pivoting towards Asia. However, the trigger for this shift was at the opposite end of the continent from Asia, i.e. the dispute over the Crimean peninsula, with the 2014 Ukraine crisis as part of the same context. In this article, I will review the history of the Crimean peninsula, which lords over the seaway connecting Europe and Asia, as well as consider what might be called a "sea change" in Russia's recent movements.

From April of 2014, the Japan Transport Safety Board has put into operation Japan - Marine Accident Risk and Safety Information System (J-MARISIS), that allows viewing of reports made public by foreign countries' marine safety investigation authorities. With the globalization of marine casualty information, the international sharing of information concerning the causes of marine casualties and safety measures is indispensable for preventing future occurrences of marine casualties and the loss of precious lives and property, as well as environmental pollution, that accompany them.

An Initiative to Create a Brand Fish Using Slurry Ice Technology

An important theme for regional revitalization is the strengthening of the fishing industry. Aiming at this, implementation of measures to improve fish catches and refrigeration technology has proven so successful that we have reached a stage where catch limits are now being imposed. With these limitations in place, quality has become a more important focus in product assessment. In this article I will introduce how in Nakatosa Town, Kochi Prefecture, slurry ice technology has been employed for freshness preservation to create a brand fish, and also propose a distribution method for fresh seafood appropriate to the new age.
