With the establishment of the Law for the Promotion of Marine Litter Disposal, Japan has formulated its basic policy on measures against marine litter. According to this law, the government will now take financial measures based on the regional plans of the prefectures, but there are fears that important cross-regional aspects of the problem will be overlooked. I hope that there will be more active efforts for community development and integrative management of coastal areas while working with each other in a multilayered way on multiple levels such as regional, national, and international levels.

The prompt report of oceanographic condition using by satellite observation are making great contributions to the effective fishing boat operations. Many fishing boat masters are using sea surface temperature chart or current chart derived from satellite observations to make quick searches for fishing ground. The purpose of those high technologies shouldn't be for catch too many fishes which lead to destruction of fisheries resources but toward to sustainable resources and industry in order to continue to be able to supply fish to Japanese dinner table forever.

Japanese ocean areas present a range of conditions, from ice floes to coral reefs. No country offers so many rich environments to enjoy scuba diving. After enjoying the great variety of seasonal changes and becoming acquainted with the life forms in different areas, one comes to deeply appreciate the wonders of Japan's ocean areas.
