The Census of Marine Life (CoML) is a vast research project, in which 2000 scientists from 70 countries are participating. One of the unique features of the project is its emphasis on active public outreach. The results of its research can be seen in the movie "Oceans," soon to be released. This is an example of public outreach in which researchers contribute to society by making their research results widely accessible, something strongly called for by contemporary society.

In 1805, with the battleship HMS Victory as its flagship, the English fleet had an historic victory over the combined fleet of France and Spain at the Battle of Trafalgar. The HMS Victory has since undergone several repairs several times, but continues to bear silent testimony to history from its dry-dock berth in the harbor of Portsmouth, England.

As marine leisure activities such as cruising and swimming become more popular, the number of water-related accidents also increases. At the 5th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, we are engaged in a variety of measures to promote the wearing of lifejackets to prevent these unnecessary tragedies and to save as many lives as possible.
