8/26 TICAD 8 Official Side Event - Policy dialogues on sustainable fisheries and aquaculture development for blue economies in Africa - Regional cooperation and international partnership

Jointly organized byOcean Policy Research Institute of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (OPRI-SPF), Co-organized with Institut National des Sciences et Technologies de la Mer (INSTM)

Sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in Africa have been deemed a priority policy from the perspective of increasing demand for marine products due to the expected population growth and the conservation of marine living resources on the continent. Africa has diverse marine environments and marine resources on the Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Indian Ocean sides, and it is necessary to develop fisheries and aquaculture industries tailored to each region. At the same time, there is a common issue that it is essential to utilize scientific knowledge through regional and international cooperation and to build social capacity, including human resource development. In this side event, policymakers, practitioners, and experts from Tunisia, African coastal countries, and Japan will gather to discuss challenges and future actions for cooperation in this area.

We look forward to the participation of all those who are interested in marine issues.
