UN Ocean Conference Side Event
“Blue economy for the Pacific island countries - Leadership, capacity development and blue economy index”

Promoting a blue economy is an increasingly important policy goal to pursue sustainable development while harnessing marine and coastal ecosystems and promoting benefit-sharing arising from the sustainable use of marine and coastal resources. At this side event, leaders will present their perspectives for promoting blue economies in the Pacific island countries to promote sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, eliminate illegal-unreported-unregulated (IUU) fishing, foster sustainable blue tourism, explore ocean renewable energy, forge capacity including the possible application of a blue economy index framework, and promote regional cooperation and international partnership.
