3/16 Online Pre-Event “Towards the Our Ocean Conference in Palau - Updates and Perspectives"

OrganizerOcean Policy Research Institute of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (OPRI-SPF)

The Government of Palau will host the Our Oceans Conference (OOC) on April 13-14, 2022. The OOC in Palau has been held since 2016 in various countries to promote dialogue, coalition building, and collaboration toward a sustainable ocean, and this will be the seventh meeting in Palau. The OOC in Palau will focus on marine protected areas, marine pollution, ocean-based measures against climate change, the blue economy, sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, and marine security. In addition, based on the needs of Pacific island countries, it is proposed to express and register commitments (pledges of future efforts) to the countries concerned. In this online pre-event, "Towards Our Ocean Conference in Palau - Current Status and Prospects," it is vital to mobilize partnership to support the endeavours contemplated by Pacific Island governments, indigenous peoples and local communities, civil society organizations, research institutes, businesses, international and regional organizations and other stakeholders. At this proposed pre-event, it is expected that the speakers will provide updates and perspectives on the forthcoming OOC. It is also an opportunity to highlight the needs and diverse possibilities for Pacific Island countries in the pursuit of addressing the global ocean-climate-biodiversity crisis.
