This section summarizes information gained from academic surveys, mainly since the end of World War II, on the sea areas surrounding the Senkaku Islands. This includes information regarding the topography and geology of the seabed, sea currents, and water temperature. Primarily, the section refers to three resource surveys conducted in the 1960s in response to a request from the Japanese Prime Minister's Office, as well as academic surveys carried out by the University of the Ryukyus.
