Preceding the San Francisco Peace Treaty, which was signed on September 8, 1951, and came into force on April 28, 1952, the US Occupation Government announced Military Government Ordinance No. 22 (the Law Concerning the Establishment of the Archipelago Governments) on August 4, 1950, and implemented it on September 1 of the same year. The ordinance was applicable to the Ryukyu Islands, over which the United States had sole military control, and concerned the establishment of governments through elections in four archipelagoes (the island groups of Okinawa, Miyako, Yaeyama, and Amami) for the first time since the start of the occupation. In Chapter I, Article I, of the ordinance, Taisho Island was included within the longitude and latitude for the Miyako Islands and the other Senkaku Islands were included in the Yaeyama Islands.
