Japan-U.S. and Security Studies Unit
For Japan, the United States is its most important ally in the realms of politics, economics, and security. Japan, in turn, is committed to advancing the vision of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific and, together with the United States, fulfilling its responsibilities as a leader of democratic societies. At the same time, amid an increasingly tense international security environment, concerns have arisen regarding the weakening of the U.S.-centered liberal international order. It is precisely under such global circumstances that we seek to contribute to the international community by fostering research, policy dialogue, and the development of intellectual and people-to-people networks among Japan, the United States, and like-minded partners. Through the strengthening of ties centered on Japan, the United States, and allied nations, we aim to promote peace and stability worldwide. In particular, in the field of security, we advance initiatives that incorporate multifaceted perspectives, engaging not only the United States and allied countries but also the Global South.
