Asia Unit

The Asia Unit strengthens strategic ties between Japan and Asian countries through dialogue and cooperation for regional peace and stability.
Many countries and regions in Asia have seen remarkable growth in recent years and are increasing their presence as part of the Global South. It is now necessary for Japan to expand strategic partnerships with these countries on a more equal footing. At the same time, challenges in the region such as demographic and environmental issues persist, and some countries and areas continue to face conflict and instability. The Asia Unit aims to reinforce strategic relationships between Japan and countries in Asia through dialogue and cooperation as a means of pursuing regional peace and stability while also addressing shared global challenges.

To this end, we will build multilayered networks through high-level dialogues with Southeast Asia, South Asia, and China; people-to-people exchanges; capacity building; and information sharing. The trust cultivated with Japan through these networks will contribute to peace and security in the region. In addition, through the implementation of pilot and model projects for peacebuilding in Southeast Asian countries, we aim to generate new insights and share these findings with the international community as policy recommendations.
