Lecture Information

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation(SPF) has regularly invited distinguished experts from all over the world on various fields such as security/diplomacy, international politics and economics to hold a talk, where they share their knowledge and wisdom from their global viewpoint on current issues.

This time we focus on the economics. Since Prime Minister Abe started his second term in December 2012, his comprehensive economic policy, so-called "Abenomics" has generally showed a smooth progress toward its significant objective to overcome deflation, with the GDP and other economic indicators moderately recovering despite occasional fluctuating stock prices.

We were proud and honored to welcome Dr. Adam S. Posen, President of the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE), the United States' leading economic think tank. Dr. Posen evaluated Abenomics and talk about its future from the viewpoint of the international economy, especially that of the United States.

Dr. Posen is the world's foremost authority on macroeconomic policies. Prior to the current position at PIIE, he had held various important posts including Member of Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England (BOE), Adviser to the US Congressional Budget Office, and Member of Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) in the United States.

Prof. Akira Kawamoto of Keio University moderated the talk. Prof. Kawamoto has experiences working in METI, Cabinet Office and OECD, and now also serves the Council for Regulatory Reform as Expert Commission Member.
