The British government and Japanese government have forged a 'strategic partnership' in 2012 and decided to promote the cooperation in the security field. Japan and the UK are both seafaring countries, major trading nations and allies of the US that share fundamental values such as democracy, the rule of law, the universality of human rights, and a strong support for free market principles. Building on these developments, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation and the Royal United Services Institute host a conference on 'Rejuvenating UK-Japan Relations for the 21st Century' on 30th September and 1st October in Tokyo. In addition to the keynote speeches by HRH The Duke of York and Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, our conference speakers, including distinguished experts and practitioners from the UK, Japan and the US, had an active discussion about the future of Japan-UK security cooperation as well as its impact on the international security environment.
