The Japan Association for Refugees (JAR) and The Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) in conjunction with Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network (APRRN) will organize a public event on regional protection for refugees and forced migrants on the afternoon of September 9 at the Nippon Foundation Building.

Currently, more than one third of the world’s refugees are settled in the Asia Pacific Region. In the year 2011, the Japan Association for Refugees (JAR) launched a project funded by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, aiming to improve the protection of refugees through strengthening the network and capacity of civil society organizations within the region. At the symposium representatives from over 20 countries around the region will share project outcomes and discuss the development of a possible framework for regional protection including a vision of regional protection and plan of action for achieving that vision with experts from East Asia, South East Asia, South Asia and Australia & the Pacific regions.
