The Sasakawa Peace Foundation held a panel discussion with a group of leading American journalists, all with many years of experience living and working in China as reporters. Each discussed the factors shaping the Chinese people's views of the rest of the world and the implications for Japan and the United States.
What role or influence do education, market forces and domestic and foreign media have in influencing the views of the people in China? What changes, if any, have China's rapid economic growth and greater interactions with the rest of the world brought its society? Are there signs of emergent democratic trends? What are the implications of Chinese societal changes and dynamics on Beijing's relationships with Japan and the United States? Distinguished American journalists with experience working in China offered their thoughts on these and other issues.
