“U.S. South Asia Policy post-Bin Laden”
A Lecture by Ms. Kara L. Bue on June 13
Closed.
The Sasakawa Peace Foundation has invited Ms. Kara L. Bue, Partner of Armitage International, L.C., to offer her analysis of U.S. South Asia policy and the impact of Osama bin Laden’s death. Ms. Bue will draw on her extensive experience working on peace and security issues in the region, both as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Regional Stability (2003-2005) and Special Assistant to then-Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage (2001-2002).
While continued focus on disaster recovery and reconstruction is warranted, Japan is expected to remain open and active on the world stage. When U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Japan on April 17 to offer her condolences to the Japanese people, she spoke of Japan’s ongoing dialogue with the United States about issues of global importance, including Afghanistan and Pakistan. Ms. Bue’s lecture will be an opportunity to discuss the strategic thinking behind U.S. South Asia policy and consider its implications for Japan and the U.S.-Japan relationship.
