Symposium by Pacific Island Nations Program, International Peace and Security Department, The Sasakawa Peace Foundation
Cutting Edge Series #4 "Symposium: Toward the Success of PALM8"
(January 30th to 31st, 2018)
Closed.
The Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) endeavors strengthening and deepening relationships between Pacific Island Countries and Japan through Track 1.5 and 2 diplomacy based on straightforward dialogue.
The Pacific Island Leaders Summit (PALM), the foundation of Japan-Pacific Island Countries relationships, has been held every 3 years since 1997. In these 20 years, situations in Pacific island countries, in the Pacific island region, and in the world have been changing, and we are standing on the new phase to establish Japan-Pacific Island Countries relationships for addressing the challenges in national, regional and global levels as equal maritime nations.
In the symposium, the SPF will introduce draft recommendations toward the success of PALM8, which will be held May this year, based on various dialogues with Pacific island countries, and hold lectures and round table discussions with participants from 10 Pacific island countries and 3 regional organizations.
