~Power of Dialogue - Civil Society and Bottom-up Democracy Building~
(July 20, 2016)
Closed.
The Sasakawa Peace Foundation warmly welcomed the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, “the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet”, as part of our Peacebuilding Program, and was proud to host the Conference on the “Power of Dialogue – Civil Society and Bottom-up Democracy Building”.
In 2015, the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for preventing the downfall of Tunisia during the transitional phase of democratization and contributing to the establishment of a pluralist democratic society. It is particularly significant that Tunisia’s four civil societies stepped people back from the edge of the civil war crisis by playing a “mediator” role for conflicting political forces through “dialogue”, and achieved widespread consensus. We have a lot to learn from this, for instance, by reconsidering an open-dialogue approach and the role of civil society in a democratic society.
