Sasakawa Peace Foundation 40th Anniversary Symposium

Learning from the World's Most Gender-Equal Nation: Driving Women's Power into Economic Growth

Japan – Iceland 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations

Co-hosted by: Embassy of Iceland in Japan / The Sasakawa Peace Foundation

Under Japan's first female Prime Minister, the Basic Policy on Economic and Fiscal Management and Reform (the "Honebuto Policy") is guiding the nation's economic growth agenda. This is a valuable opportunity to make women's empowerment a real engine of economic growth through a "Women's Honebuto Policy."
We are honored to welcome Ms. Eliza Reid, former First Lady of Iceland and acclaimed author, as our keynote speaker. Iceland has ranked first in the world for gender equality for 17 consecutive years. In her address, Ms. Reid will reflect on how women's empowerment shapes both society and the economy.
A panel discussion will follow the keynote, featuring:
Ms. Kathy Matsui, who coined the term "Womenomics" and is a leading advocate for the link between women's empowerment and economic growth
Ms. Shoko Nireki, Managing Director, Össur Japan G.K., the Japanese subsidiary of the Icelandic medical and mobility technology company Össur
Dr. Atsushi Sunami, President of The Sasakawa Peace Foundation
Drawing on perspectives from Japan and Iceland, the panel will explore how Japanese policy can turn women's empowerment into effective, sustainable growth strategies. The symposium brings together one of the world's most gender-equal nations and distinguished leaders from Japan's policy and business communities in a high-level dialogue on the future of women's empowerment and economic growth.
