Public Seminar: Investing in Gender Equality for a Sustainable Future for All

Organized by: Sasakawa Peace Foundation
Supported by: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan

In a rapidly changing political, social, economic and environmental context, it is a necessity to maximize the power of both men and women in order to build an inclusive and sustainable society that is more prosperous for all. Many studies have shown that women's active participation has a significant impact on both societies and economies. In recent years, good practices of an acceleration of gender equality through investing have emerged. These have been achieved by the products of gender-lens investing which promote women-supported businesses and access to finance for female entrepreneurs, while contributing to the development of local economies and societies.

In order to create and promote sustainable social impact by investing in gender equality, further cross-sectoral partnerships and collaborations are needed. In addition to the social sector, proactive involvement from the private sector with economic incentives, alongside the public sector, are the key for more innovative approaches.

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation will be holding a public seminar as an opportunity to consider value creation, expansion of economic opportunities and social impact by investing in gender equality, while exploring possibilities for public-private partnerships. Guest speakers include: Council members of the Gender Equality Advisory Council (GEAC), an independent advisory body on gender equality for G7 leaders; Mr. Ken Shibusawa, who is involved in the public-private partnership Impact Fund for collective actions to tackle social issues; and Ms. Shruti Gonsalves, CEO of Sitara, a group organization of SEWA (Self-Employed Women Workers Association) providing housing finance services for low-income women. We look forward to your participation.
