New form of capitalism in Japan and the Nordic vision: Labor participation, gender equality, and work-life balance

The Nordic Vision 2030 seeks to transform the Nordic region into the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030 based on three strategic priorities: a green Nordic Region, a competitive Nordic Region, and a socially sustainable Nordic Region. Japanese Prime Minister Kishida’s vision for a “new form of capitalism” also aims to achieve robust growth by promoting diversity, among other initiatives. In the prime minister’s own words, “the keyword in this context is diversity. For Japanese companies to achieve innovation-driven growth, they need to become more diverse.” Looking to the Nordic countries, gender equality is a cornerstone of the modern Nordic welfare societies. The high employment rates for both women and men are linked to the Nordic countries' commitments to subsidized childcare, parental leave, and good working conditions.

To discuss these topics, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation is pleased to work with the embassies of Nordic countries in Tokyo to hold a seminar as part of the “New Form of Capitalism in Japan and the Nordic Vision” series, which will focus on labor participation, gender equality, and work-life balance. We look forward to your participation.
