Webinar on "The Rapid Fall of Afghan Government to Taliban Forces: What It Means for Indonesia"

Organized by The Habibie Center & Sasakawa Peace Foundation

The Taliban have seized power in Afghanistan and now control the capital city, Kabul, after two decades since they were driven out by the US. Despite the moderation they are outwardly projecting, many Afghans remain deeply skeptical, as they remember the Taliban’s previous oppression in the late 1990s. In the international community, there are fears that the Taliban's takeover will motivate global jihadists worldwide, and in Indonesia, the world's biggest Muslim-majority country, there are concerns that the victory of Taliban could embolden local extremist groups. The National Intelligence Agency (BIN) has said that developments at the global and regional levels influence the movement of militant groups in Indonesia. This concern has been taken as BIN has already began to track several groups in Indonesia that have close ties with the Taliban.

Therefore, in order to explore the effect of the Taliban’s ascendance to global jihadism and Indonesia’s Islamist radicals, The Habibie Center and Sasakawa Peace Foundation will organize a webinar entitled "The Rapid Fall of Afghan Government to Taliban Forces: What It Means for Indonesia."
