The Sasakawa Peace Foundation would like to invite you to the Public Lecture to be given by Ambassador Jean-Christophe Peaucelle, Advisor for Religious Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in France.

Ambassador Peaucelle is a leading expert on religion and politics in France. Ambassador’s position as the advisor for religious affairs is unique, existing solely in France. The position is attributed to the fact that the country has had rich experiences in dealing with ideas and issues concerning religion. The country also established ideals for its own, always tackling with social issues that are to a large extent concerned with peace and peace building. Under the direction of Mr. Emmanuel Macron, the President of the Republic of France, Ambassador Peaucelle has been promoting policies that aim to harmonize different religious convictions including Islam in the contemporary France. The more the French public has become aware of the issues surrounding Islam, the more Ambassador Peaucelle’s diplomatic efforts have increasingly become intertwined with the domestic policy.

At the Lecture, Ambassador Peaucelle will speak about the historical background of, as well as current religious issues in France. The Lecture is part of SPF new project on “Understanding Islam in Japan”, which aims to raise awareness to those issues that are centered around religion and society.

This is going to be a thought-provoking, and therefore valuable, occasion. We look forward to receiving many applications to attend the Lecture
